So, you've been asked to be a mentor.
I know what you're thinking...
"I'm not qualified" "I'm not ready" "I don't know what to say" "I'm an introvert" You are qualified because you have already been through this manual. You are ready because your leader chose you. God will help you with what and when to say it, but if you feel stuck, talk to your group. As for being an introvert, that's ok. The mentor manuals will act as a guide as to what to say.
We truly believe that God is the one who puts the mentor and mentee together. Below you will find some helpful hints and talking points on the different manuals, as well as a 30 minute training your coordinators went through called Maturing as a Mentor. To start the process we need you to answer four quick questions.
You can do this! We are praying for you

The three mentor manual modules are intended to shepherd men along their purity journey. Each module has material that is specific to a different stage in a man’s purity and recovery journey. Please make sure you are using the manual with the same cover art. Here are some key things to remember when mentoring.
* Expect to spend 8-12 weeks going through each manual.
* Be sure you do some preparation before the meeting with your mentee. This allows you to review your previous answers and to familiarize yourself with the discussion questions.
* Attendance and homework are an important indicator of engagement. If your mentee is struggling with either of these, discuss it with him soon.

* Remember this man is new to group, so strike a healthy balance between holding your mentee accountable and being flexible on his rate of progress. * It may take longer to do the accountability line than one week. * You don't have to know everything. If you are not sure, let the mentee know it's a good question and bring it to the group. * Don't skip week eight, review the book in light of what he has learned. |
