A Husband's Message to You

I've been in recovery for almost three years and while sexual sobriety has been achieved by God’s grace, I feel I am still in the infant stages when it comes to the entire journey; one that will probably last my entire lifetime. There is still so much to learn and experience, so much more of God’s love to discover and embrace.

I have learned in my experience that underneath my sexual acting out there were deep layers of resentment and fear buried underneath, and as much as I would like to take care of those quickly, it simply isn't that easy. Getting sexually sober takes some time, but it's only by striving toward purity have I been able to look at what has been driving the behavior. And working changing those attitudes and behaviors – allowing Christ to do the work for me – is a continual process.

Recovery is not done alone. It takes the support of many other individuals for it to work and for it to be lasting. I know my wife and I couldn’t have done it without the support we have received from our respective FMO/Hidden Hurt groups and the individuals in them. I know I personally have greatly appreciated the leadership I’ve received from my group leaders and the wisdom I’ve garnered from my mentor and fellow group members.
